Pretty much all my bands have their albums archived around 15-17 days after release, achieving last day sales of around 5k. My band Ace's most recent album only charted for 13 days, and was archived with last day sales of 9k: without a break in promoting I am convinced the album could have continued selling for at least another two days and shifted an extra 10k. Is there any reason why this seems to have been archived prematurely? Did it just suddenly drop off in sales for some reason?

It's more related on album ratings (level and fame) and who's now at the top. Album will be at the charts at least 10 turns and at most 19 turns. Will your album reach this maximum limit depends on who is at the top of the album chart. If it's a new album and is having high ratings (level and fame), then your old album will not cut it to the chart, sorta like a new hot album takes all the sales and your old album just isn't important/interesting anymore.
