July 15th, 2026 - The BIG DROP

Hi folks. Let's create an event to work against, what do you say?
I suggest the following:
July 15'th is the BIG DROP - we all release our albums at the same day, and we see the charts light up. Finally a way to measure our bands against each other.
Make your best effort - Beat it! :)

I like the idea.
My only reservation is that the natural response is to create the biggest album you can, and everyone will do that. At which point the differentiator is fame, and it the result will be ordered by the ages of the bands, just like the singles chart, not the quality of the album.

Yes, you are right, of course, but what are viable alternatives?

We could lean on as many dirty tricks as we can to create an edge and climb a couple of places.

Like asking others not to release albums for several months, you mean? :) 

That is sneaky. I thought you'd just calculated reasonably well the time taken to produce a 12-single album.

Clarification. Is your intent that we issue the instructions to release on the 15th, or on the 14th so that they release on the 15th?

The release is the day you push the button. The day after is the first sales report. My intent is that we release (push the button) on the 15th.

Anyone else getting ready for this?

Can't be a lot, but hopefully a few. I doubt that any one is even checking the forum. Anyhow - I'll be there!

One of my bands has recorded a fluke album with 12 singles and 12 album songs. Not one of my best bands but still... is all fair in love and war, or is it against the spirit of the big drop?

Better be all fair because I might have been doing it on purpose. I accidentally made one with 13 album tracks.

Sure is fair! :) But how did you manage to get in 13 songs??

Ah now I wish I'd done that with all my bands! Oh well, next time. 

I made a forum post about it a few months ago. If I do the following:

• Select singles (max 12)
• Type any number (highest I've done is 13) into the the number of album tracks
• Record the album

It doesn't limit the album tracks to MAX(12 - N_singles) . It just gives you what you ask for. So you can have 12 singles + some album tracks

I figure without my exploitation of the "bonus tracks", my best band's album rating would have been more like 52,756. I think, when taking fame into account, that would have put it just behind Enter Output's entry.

Yes but like we said, all is fair! Congrats to The Arcanum Orchestra, and my vote for best album name goes to Drop Dead Gorgeous.  Anyway, this just gives us an excuse to compete for a Christmas no. 1, whether it's a single or an album.  We should maybe specify the number of tracks next time if so :D
